Beanies For Babies New Zealand Charity Knitting

Beanies for Babies are always looking for new knitters and new recipients for this worthwhile cause!

And they have been providing beanies for newborn babies in New Zealand since 2007!

Beanies for Babies Aim…

To gift new knitted beanies and booties for newborn babies in New Zealand – keeping little heads and feet warm, and assisting in a healthy beginning to life.

Knitted donations are distributed to birthing units, maternity hospitals, and various organizations directly involved with newborn babies.

Beanies for Babies Guidelines for making knitted items:

Patterns: Knitted donations may be made using any knitting pattern you have. There are no pattern style restrictions except that they must be suitable for newborn babies. Hospitals find ribbed beanies useful as they will stretch to accommodate a variety of head sizes, but any newborn size baby beanie design is acceptable.

Materials: Yarn can be wool or acrylic, or a blend of wool and acrylic, as long as it is new yarn not reused yarn.

Colours: Pastel colours still have the widest appeal but any colour or combination of colours may be included.

Sizes: Our greatest need is for average newborn size items. These items are to give to mothers when their baby is big enough to take home from hospital.

Free Knitting Pattern:

You are welcome to use any baby beanie knitting pattern you like. If you don’t already have a pattern to use, a free pattern is available to anyone volunteering to knit for Beanies For Babies. The pattern is for a very simple knitted baby beanie and requires 8ply yarn (DK double knitting), but can easily be adapted for use with 4 ply.
